Inter president Steven Zhang was overjoyed with their progression to the Champions League final: ‘We have done our job bringing Inter back to the top.’ The Nerazzurri were 2-0 up from the first leg last week and despite some early Milan pressure, a Lautaro Martinez goal last night was enough to see them over the line. Speaking with Sky Sport Italia after the match, Zhang expressed his happiness with t the teams performance and explained why Simone Inzaghi will continue to be coach for many years to come:
Is this the biggest emotion after the Scudetto?
“Definitely, we are in the Champions League final and it is something incredible that does not happen every season. Credit to the coach and staff who did everything right to get to the final.”
Can Inter win the Champions League?
“Anything is possible, anything can happen in 90 minutes. We believe in it.”
Did you call your father?
“Later. For sure he saw the game, he goes to bed very late to watch games and if we don’t win he puts pressure on me.”
How can this result change Suning’s history with Inter?
“We are in our seventh year, I have been here since I was 24 years old. There are players here who had never played in the Champions League, and we made this dream possible. We have done our job bringing Inter back to the top, as long as we are here we will work to keep Inter in this position.”
Is there a desire to maintain the leadership for a long time? Also to bring important players to Italy.
“The football transfer market always serves to improve, sometimes it depends on the opportunities that arise. The results show that at every football transfer market we have worked well, the goal will always be to build a better team for the following season.”
What is Simone Inzaghi’s most important quality?
“He will be the Inter coach for many seasons. I have worked with many coaches despite being only 31 years old. Inzaghi is special: he is very calm in any kind of context, whether you win or lose he remains calm. This is a special quality. Besides, he is the only one who never asks me for players.”
