Ivan Zazzaroni, director of Corriere dello Sport, has weighed in on Juventus’ current state under new manager Thiago Motta following their 2-2 draw with Parma at the Allianz Stadium. In his editorial, Zazzaroni draws comparisons between Motta’s tenure and that of his predecessor, Massimiliano Allegri.
“Work continues at the Motta construction site to build a credible, top-tier team,” Zazzaroni begins, acknowledging the ongoing process of team development under the new coach.
However, he notes that the change in management has not yet yielded significant results: “At the moment, there are no substantial differences between the old and new course of Juventus: it takes time.”
Zazzaroni points out a curious statistic regarding Juventus’ propensity for draws this season: “Peculiar is the loyalty to draws: in the current year there are already 16 out of 30 matches, only in 1956 did Juventus collect one more, and I wasn’t even born yet.”
The journalist highlighted that Motta is responsible for six of these sixteen draws and is currently underperforming compared to Allegri’s record at this stage: “Six of the sixteen draws belong to Thiago, who has five points fewer than Allegri, despite boasting the second-best defense in the league and the fifth-best attack.”
Anticipating criticism for his continued references to Allegri, Zazzaroni defends his approach: “You might ask: why do you always talk about Allegri? Answer: who else should I make comparisons with? Carcano?”
