Hellas Verona manager Paolo Zanetti was brimming with pride after his team’s stunning 3-0 victory over Napoli in their Serie A opener. Speaking to Sky Sports, Zanetti praised his players’ performance and highlighted the significance of the result.

“I had asked my players to put in a great performance regardless of the result,” Zanetti began. “The result is always a consequence. I must compliment the boys who pulled off an incredible performance. The scoreline is significant, one of those that makes history, and I’m proud to be the manager who led the team to this result.”

Zanetti emphasized the team’s remarkable turnaround following their Coppa Italia defeat to Cesena. “After the setback against Cesena in the Coppa Italia, tonight we played an extraordinary match. In football, mentality makes the difference. We entered the field with great personality and character, and the desire to fight for every ball, putting in a lot of running.”

The manager also touched on the importance of a strong start to the season: “The championship is long, but it’s always nice to start well.”

When asked about his familiarity with the new players, Zanetti admitted, “No, I have to be honest, I had only seen them on video. They have a great hunger; from a technical point of view, they need to take steps forward, but today they showed their value.”

Zanetti also commented on the unique atmosphere at the Stadio Bentegodi: “We play in a stadium that gives you goosebumps, so it’s impossible not to play with the right mentality. Today we did our best against a Napoli team that wasn’t at their best.”

Looking ahead, the manager remained grounded, stating, “There will be work to do, we still have to build.” This victory marks a dream start for Verona in their Serie A campaign, setting a high bar for the matches to come.
