Hellas Verona manager Paolo Zanetti addressed the media ahead of his team’s crucial Serie A encounter with Monza, emphasizing the importance of the match amidst ongoing transfer market activities.
Zanetti made it clear that the team’s focus is solely on the upcoming game: “The most important thing is the match. We must give continuity to the performance in Venice. Our concentration must be solely on the game without being distracted by anything else.”
When questioned about potential transfers, Zanetti remained tight-lipped, stating, “I am for continuing to work on the field. It’s clear we would like to keep good and important players, but if there are club needs and irrefusable offers, it’s not up to me to make decisions. Clearly, we would like to keep the best.”
Regarding new signings, Zanetti provided insights on Oyegoke and Niasse: “Oyegoke is a boy with great desire. We need people who want to fight. He’s a wide player with excellent running, not as fast as Tchatchoua but quick. He gives us an important alternative.” On Niasse, he added, “It’s not official yet, but he’s a player with several Champions League appearances. He has height, tackles well, covers ground, can filter, is good in the air, different from the players we have now and can complete the department.”
The manager also addressed the importance of the Monza match: “It’s a difficult game, but we knew that. At this moment, all matches have an important value for everyone. We need to be in it to the maximum because it will be a battle.”
Zanetti expressed confidence in his team’s recent form: “In the last 6-7 games, we only went wrong against Lazio. All other performances pleased me. We are maintaining a certain trend that needs to be confirmed tomorrow. I expect important maturity from the team.”
The coach also praised young defender Ghilardi’s development: “Ghilardi is a boy who had a total championship at Sampdoria last year, gaining experience. Initially, he could have been evaluated as a player who could leave in the market, but I pushed to keep him. At this moment, he aims to be a technical leader, speaking little and doing a lot.”
