Ahead of Poland’s opening match of the 2022 World Cup against Mexico, Roma wing-back Nicola Zalewski provided his perspective to the press.

So far this season, the 20 year-old has flourished under Mourinho at the helm of the capital club, featuring in 16 games for the Giallorossi across all competitions and was voted as the winner of the Golden Boy award.

As a result, his marvellous quality and ferocity along the flanks has earned him a shot to showcase his capabilities to play amongst the best on the biggest stage, earning himself a spot within Poland’s 26-man roster.

While speaking to the media ahead of his team’s first fixture of the group stage on Tuesday, as per La Roma 24, Zalewski touched upon how feels prior to the significant match and spoke about his side’s opponents:

“I feel very good. Let’s say there’s a bit of pressure, but it’s normal. I’m ready for the first match. It will be an important match for us and I will do everything to help the team. This is the most important moment of my short career. I’m focused on this match and I’ll take the field to give my all. My role? In a 4-2-3-1 I can play as a left-back or more up front. But I feel better as a winger.”

On the Mexican national team, Poland’s next opponent:

“We know that Mexico has an excellent team, they’re strong in attack. From the Italian league, I know Hirving Lozano from Napoli, who is one of their best players. It will be the most important match. I’m sure that we can win it.”
