Wijnaldum: ‘My future is uncertain, I had a good time at Roma’

Start

Gini Wijnaldum is uncertain of his future, despite having had a good time during his loan spell with Roma. The Dutch midfielder spent a large part of the 2022-23 season on the sidelines through injury, before finally becoming a key part of Jose Mourinho’s starting XI in the closing portion of the season.

The 32-year-old is now back at Paris Saint-Germain, but it’s unclear if he is in their plans for the new campaign, given the departure of Christophe Galtier. Speaking yesterday ahead of the Netherlands Nations League match against Italy, he reiterated that he’s waiting to see what the future holds:

“My season has been quiet and also strange. Because when I arrived I only did some training, one game where I played only 12 minutes, and then the next week I was injured for a long time. I came back in February, so I didn’t have a long season. I enjoyed every moment here with the team, with the coach, who supported me and helped me a lot. I really enjoyed working with Mourinho.” On the future: “I have a contract with PSG and now we will see what happens. It is difficult for me to say now what will happen, because I have already said that I have a contract with PSG and I have to see what situation will happen in the future. This is the situation.”
