Roma clinched a spot in the Europa League playoffs with a convincing 2-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt at the Stadio Olimpico. The Giallorossi’s goals came from Angelino in the 44th minute and Eldor Shomurodov in the 69th minute, sealing their progression in the tournament.
After the match, Roma’s manager Claudio Ranieri shared his thoughts on the team’s performance and their future in the competition. Ranieri began by praising his team’s defensive efforts: “We were very attentive at the back. The boys did well. It was a great victory. I look at things the way I see football. For me, Hummels is an immense player, but as a man, he’s a reference point for all his teammates. I told him that the way he trains is very important.”
When asked about Shomurodov’s future with the club, Ranieri was quick to dismiss any transfer rumours: “Shomurodov? He’s staying with us. All the boys love him. The whole team wants him; he’s always smiling. I always tell him, ‘If you leave, who am I going to get angry with?!'” he added with a laugh.
The manager also commented on young talent Matías Soulé: “All the qualities he hasn’t shown yet, he will show along the way.” This statement suggests that Ranieri has high hopes for the player’s development and future contributions to the team.
Addressing Roma’s chances in the Europa League, Ranieri remained cautiously optimistic: “Are we favourites to win the Europa League? We’re moving forward step by step. We will always give our best; we’re in a moment of growth, and that’s fine. We must continue to work with humility.”
