“We put in a good showing”: Bologna coach reflects on narrow defeat to Monaco

Bologna’s Champions League campaign suffered another setback as they fell to a late 1-0 defeat against Monaco at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara. Despite the disappointing result, head coach Vincenzo Italiano remained upbeat about his team’s performance against tough opposition.

“We put in a good showing today,” Italiano told Sky Sport after the match. “We managed to take the measure of a very difficult team to face – one that is fast, quick and technical. In the second half we gained ground and held our own against a strong side.”

The Italian tactician praised his team’s ability to compete at the highest level of European football, even if results have not gone their way so far. “The truth is that we are realizing we can avoid being overwhelmed in these matches against top-quality teams,” he noted.

Italiano highlighted Bologna’s positive approach and ability to create chances, while lamenting their lack of cutting edge in front of goal. “We are holding our own well on the pitch, creating situations and producing important goalscoring opportunities. The problem is that we can’t put the ball in the net and we concede at the first lapse in concentration.”

Looking ahead, the coach emphasized the need for continued improvement. “We need to work on many aspects,” Italiano concluded. “But we shouldn’t get discouraged. We’ve shown we can compete at this level.”
