Atalanta’s impressive run of 11 consecutive Serie A victories came to an end as they faced Lazio, resulting in a 1-1 draw at the Stadio Olimpico. Fisayo Dele-Bashiru opened the scoring for Lazio in the first half, but Marco Brescianini equalized late in the match, allowing Atalanta to maintain their position at the top of the league table.
Following the match, Atalanta head coach Gian Piero Gasperini shared his thoughts with Sky Sport. He remarked, “We expected a Lazio like this; they are capable of such performances. One half for each team. We struggled at first to contain their speed, strength, and quality. It was a difficult match, but we came out strong. We must compliment all 22 players on the field. We scored late.”
Gasperini also reflected on Atalanta’s overall performance in 2024, stating, “It has been wonderful and extraordinary for us. We are almost sorry that it is coming to an end. Is it repeatable? For now, we can no longer win the Europa League; our mission is always to improve. Tonight we played on a difficult pitch, but in the end, we found balance and our plays, finishing strongly against a strong Lazio team. That is a great credit to us.”
On squad depth and player contributions, he noted, “Cuadrado has been performing very well for a few weeks now. He has already had a couple of very good matches. If he stays fit, he will be a great boost for us.”
Addressing the upcoming January transfer window, Gasperini expressed his hopes for strengthening the squad: “We are not very numerous in attack. I believe that is a common misconception; just look at the bench. In January, it would be important to finish what we couldn’t complete in August. Back in June, we intended to be very competitive this year.”
