Walter Sabatini launches scathing attack on Roma’s American owners

Start

Walter Sabatini, former Roma executive and currently without a role after leaving Salernitana, has launched a blistering attack on the American ownership of AS Roma in a recent interview with Corriere della Sera.

Sabatini did not mince words in his criticism: “These Americans at Roma are charlatans, people who have not understood the city and the sense of ownership that the people have towards the team.”

The experienced sports director expressed deep concern about how the Friedkin Group is managing a historic club like Roma, whose fans have an immense passion and, in his view, do not deserve to be treated in this manner. He further elaborated: “A fanbase like Roma’s, you must understand. You can’t pretend it doesn’t exist, because Romanism is too powerful a sentiment, it’s an illness.”

Sabatini also highlighted the fans’ recent actions during the match against Monza, where a banner appeared in the away section of the U-Power stadium criticizing the American ownership due to the team’s unconvincing results. The banner read: “Ghost company, a team of zombies.”

These strong statements from Sabatini reflect growing discontent among Roma supporters with the current ownership’s management style and the team’s performance on the field.
