Dusan Vlahovic emerged as the hero in Juventus’ thrilling 3-2 victory over RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League group stage. The Serbian striker’s brace proved crucial in securing the win, especially considering Juventus played with ten men for a significant portion of the match.
Speaking to Amazon Prime Video after the game, Vlahovic expressed his delight: “I’m extremely happy, especially for the team. We played for almost 45 minutes with a man down. We’re becoming a real team. We fought as the coach asked us to, and we never stopped pressing them even with one less player. Of course, we had to suffer at the end, but I think we deserved to win.”
Reflecting on his first goal, Vlahovic shared a lighthearted moment with former Italian striker Luca Toni: “This is thanks to you. We’ve met, and since then, I’ve scored two braces. You should come watch the matches more often. It was a nice goal. These victories are what we need, these matches that we didn’t play last year. We need to move forward with even more conviction.”
Describing his second goal, Vlahovic highlighted the team’s strategy: “We were all good. We recovered the ball high up the pitch, which was our plan before the match. I acted on instinct, saw some space, curled it, and fortunately, it went in. It’s crucial for us.”
In a separate interview with Sky Sport, Vlahovic emphasized the team’s potential: “The victory is the most important thing. I scored, we gave everything, and we showed that we’re not just a great team, but a team that’s comfortable together and can achieve great things.”
The striker also addressed his controversial celebration against Genoa in a previous match, showing maturity and self-awareness: “When I score, it’s more beautiful, of course. I’m a striker. I don’t get depressed, though it might seem that way from the outside. I know when I make mistakes. The other day, I was wrong with my celebration. I have to admit it and change these things, do what strong players do. Certainly, when you score, it’s easier, you gain more confidence.”
