Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has opened up about his experiences in the Premier League, addressing criticism and sharing his thoughts on the team’s performance this season.
Vicario, who joined Tottenham from Empoli, has made an impressive start to his career in England. The Italian goalkeeper expressed his delight at playing in the Premier League, stating, “It is a dream.” He added, “I arrived with great desire and not setting myself any limits. I entered a different reality.”
Reflecting on Tottenham’s start to the season, Vicario acknowledged that the team’s results haven’t always matched their performances. “We have perhaps collected a little less than what we have built with our play,” he said. “Evidently, however, something was missing and there is room for improvement.”
Looking ahead to Tottenham’s Europa League campaign, Vicario emphasized the importance of consistency in European competitions. “In European Cups, you can’t afford missteps,” he explained. “Thursday is a great opportunity. There are many high-level opponents here.”
Addressing the criticism he faced earlier in the season, Vicario displayed a mature attitude. “Criticism in football is always there, at any level,” he stated. “You have to detach yourself and focus on the things you can control.”
Vicario also touched on his experience with the Italian national team. “Playing in Udine, in my city and in front of my parents, was emotional,” he shared. “I’m also happy about the victory.”
The goalkeeper’s dedication to Tottenham is evident in his words. In a striking statement, Vicario revealed, “I was prepared to sign for Tottenham in my own blood,” highlighting his enthusiasm for joining the club.
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has praised Vicario’s performances, saying, “He has been strong pretty much from the first game. Some games we haven’t needed a lot and today we needed him to be at his best.”
