Following Venezia’s crushing 4-0 defeat at San Siro against AC Milan, manager Eusebio Di Francesco spoke to DAZN about his team’s performance. He acknowledged the fragility that emerged during the match, emphasizing the need for improvement in that area.
Di Francesco noted that his team had initially responded well to conceding the first goal. However, he lamented the subsequent errors that led to the corner kick and two penalties, stating, “We hurt ourselves. We lost confidence in our build-up play, where Milan was struggling to press us at the beginning.”
The Venezia coach described the evening as a bad one that should serve as a lesson for the team. He took responsibility for the errors made, admitting, “We weren’t up to par. We faced a team with players who wanted to prove themselves.”
When questioned about the penalty awarded for a foul on Abraham, Di Francesco expressed his disagreement. “I don’t agree with the first penalty. There was only a light touch on Abraham. That decision changed the direction of the match,” he said. He went on to add, “It’s unacceptable to concede four goals after half an hour, and it’s difficult at San Siro. But in my opinion, that penalty was a bit sought after.”
Addressing the need to work on individual errors, Di Francesco emphasized collective responsibility. “I believe the team makes mistakes together. If something isn’t working, it means everyone hasn’t done something right. We need to be more of a team, without pointing fingers at specific players. We need to examine our conscience,” he stated.
