Venezia earn promotion to Serie A after two-year absence

Start

After a two-year hiatus, Venezia have  officially returned to Serie A under the guidance of coach Paolo Vanoli, beating Cremonese in the play-offs. Having played out a goalless draw in the first leg at the Zini Stadium in Cremona, Venezia headed into the decisive match at their home ground, the Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo, needing only a win or a draw to secure promotion. They clinched the victory with a 1-0 scoreline, thanks to a crucial goal by Christian Gytkjaer.

Earlier in the playoffs, Venezia overcame Palermo in the semifinals with an aggregate score of 3-1. This success followed their third-place finish in the regular season, narrowly missing out on automatic promotion, which was secured by Como.

Despite securing a space back in Italy’s top flight, the may Leoni alati have to do without coach Paolo Vanoli, who has been strongly linked with a move to Torino.
