The use of VAR technology helped prevent 129 additional errors this season with the percentage of errors dropping by 90.7 percent thanks to the use of technology. That’s according to a report from Serie A &B referee designator Gianluca Rocchi, who was speaking at Milan Football Week. Presenting the data during the event, Rocchi said:
“There have been 1820 official checks, Without this tool (VAR) we would have had 129 more errors. Instead, there have been 12 wrong calls despite the use of VAR, as there are always people behind every technology. Everyone demands perfection, but human beings are not perfect, so I would be very happy if we end up with these numbers that we are trying to improve anyway.”
“Just think, of the offside cases we see weekly on all pitches. Only in Inter-Sassuolo there would have been two goals awarded despite an irregular position that was not caught live, but thanks to technology it was. Think about how much it helps us. VAR is an extraordinary tool.”
Finally, from the data shown by the designator, the percentage of errors dropped by 90.7 percent thanks to the use of technology.
