UEFA removes San Siro as host for 2027 Champions League final

Start

UEFA has officially decided to exclude Milan’s San Siro stadium as the venue for the 2027 Champions League final. This decision, which had been anticipated for some time, was confirmed by European football’s governing body, which now plans to select the definitive host by mid-2025.

Calciomercato report that the primary reason for this decision is that the Municipality of Milan could not guarantee that San Siro and its surrounding areas would not be affected by renovation works during the period of the final. This scenario is closely tied to the ongoing discussions about the future stadium plans of both Inter and AC Milan, with the former considering a move to Rozzano and the latter to San Donato.

In an official statement, UEFA explained: “As the Municipality of Milano could not guarantee that the San Siro stadium and its surroundings would not be affected by refurbishment works in the period of the 2027 UEFA Champions League final, it was decided not to assign the final to Milan and to re-open the bidding process to appoint a suitable venue, with a decision expected in May/June 2025.”

This development marks a significant change for the iconic San Siro, which has a rich history of hosting major football events. The search for a new venue for the 2027 Champions League final will now begin, with UEFA aiming to find a suitable replacement that can meet all the necessary requirements for hosting such a prestigious event.
