UEFA Rankings: Italy’s Chances for 5 Champions League Spots

Start

The first half of the Champions League matchday has concluded, reshuffling the standings with goals and comebacks. These results also impact the UEFA seasonal ranking for 2024/25, which determines extra spots for the top two ranked nations.

Italy’s goal is to secure a fifth Champions League spot for the next season, similar to Bologna’s recent qualification. Currently, Italy hold the second position in this special ranking, ahead of Spain, which has narrowly overtaken Portugal according to UEFA’s official website. England maintains a significant lead, but there’s fierce competition behind them.

Italian football still holds a good advantage, but the recent Champions League results have reduced the gap, especially with Spain and Germany, the two leagues posing the biggest threat as the European competitions progress.

The current UEFA seasonal ranking for 2024/2025 stands as follows:

1. England: 17.785070
2. Italy: 14.562
3. Spain: 14.142
4. Portugal: 13.450
5. Germany: 12.750
6. France: 12.214
7. Belgium: 11.700

While Italy’s position looks promising, the competition remains tight. The coming weeks of European football will be crucial in determining whether Serie A can maintain its advantage and secure that coveted fifth Champions League spot for the 2025/26 season.
