Udinese eyeing Lazio’s Castrovilli as midfield reinforcement

Start

Udinese are reportedly considering a move for Lazio midfielder Gaetano Castrovilli as they look to bolster their squad for the second half of the Serie A season. The former Fiorentina player has struggled to find regular playing time under Lazio manager Marco Baroni, making just one start in the league campaign so far.

Castrovilli, who joined Lazio on a free transfer last summer, has had a challenging time establishing himself in the capital club. The 27-year-old midfielder’s move to Bournemouth fell through at the end of the 2022/23 season due to failed medical examinations, leading to his arrival at Lazio. However, his impact has been limited, with only nine appearances and a total of 152 minutes played across all competitions for the Biancocelesti.

According to Calciomercato, the Italian international, who was part of the Euro 2020-winning squad, is now reportedly seeking new opportunities to revive his career. Udinese, currently sitting in ninth place in Serie A with 24 points at the end of 2024, are in the market for midfield reinforcements. The Friulian club sees Castrovilli as a potential alternative to their current midfielder Ekkelenkamp.

However, any potential move faces significant hurdles. The primary obstacle for Castrovilli’s transfer to Udinese is likely to be financial considerations, given his current contract with Lazio. Despite this, both parties might be motivated to find a solution, with Castrovilli eager for more playing time and Udinese looking to strengthen their squad for a strong finish to the season.
