With Kylian Mbappé set to depart PSG in the summer, Inter forward Marcus Thuram has emerged as a possible successor. The Frenchman has had a stellar start to life in Serie A and is set to win the league title in his debut campaign with the Nerazzurri.
Tuttosport (via CM) report that PSG are looking to reinforce their attacking lineup in the summer, and in addition to Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, the Ligue 1 side have also set their sights on Inter’s number 9, who would be deployed more as a winger rather than a traditional center forward.
It’s suggested that Inter have a big summer transfer window in mind to solidify an already formidable squad, and to do so, there needs to be a significant sale that helps fund the transfer window. This was demonstrated, for example, by the Onana deal last season, and Thuram could represent a similar idea. Arriving on a free transfer with the payment of “only” €8 million in agent fees and former club fees (training bonuses), any amount received would represent a significant capital gain.
According to Tuttosport, Inter will not negotiate on the price for their number 9, having plans for “minor” sales such as Denzel Dumfries and several other talents who are currently out on loan across Italy and Europe. However, in a challenging economic situation, no player can be considered untouchable in the face of monster offers.
For Thuram, Inter’s starting bid is no less than €80 million, which would also represent, among other things, the exact amount, give or take a million, of the expected deficit on the balance sheet as of June 30, 2024. This would allow Ausilio, Marotta, and Baccin to secure not only players on free transfers (Taremi and Zielinski already secured, with negotiations for Hermoso ongoing), but also for “expensive” targets such as Torino defender Alessandro Buongiorno and Genoa striker Albert Gudmundsson (who shares tactical similarities with Thuram despite having different physical attributes).
