As the Derby della Capitale looms, Igor Tudor shared his thoughts on Roma and how they’ve changed under Daniele De Rossi. With much at stake for both sides – Roma eyeing a Champions League berth while Lazio seek a climb up the league table – the stage is set for a fiercely contested match. Speaking to the press ahead of the match, Tudor reflected on his early experiences with the Biancocelesti and what he expects from a hotly contested derby match:
“I have experienced derbies with other clubs, and I have always enjoyed these matches. They are different from others. You have to prepare for them in the best possible way. You can’t escape the feelings of the people. It should give you something extra without losing your head. There must be respect and the right level of rivalry,” Tudor remarked.
Reflecting on his initial days at Lazio, Tudor commented, “We have three matches in seven days, and we have had two training sessions between them. I have seen many good and positive things. I have seen more positives than negatives. There is great condition and a lot of desire. There is only room for growth and improvement.”
Regarding Daniele De Rossi, also experiencing his first derby as a coach, Tudor stated, “I have watched Roma’s matches yesterday and today. They are an interesting team and different from before. There is quality in their game; they have done a good job. It will be very difficult. Both teams have their characteristics, different but also similar. I thank him for the words he dedicated to me. I don’t know him well, but he seems to have the right values. He has just begun his career, and it’s a good start.”
Acknowledging the significance of the match, despite his recent arrival in Rome, Tudor said, “I am quite isolated here. I have only been to the city center once. However, I am feeling the importance of the match. I can’t wait for kick-off.”
Tudor also touched upon the formations used, stating, “One starts working and puts the football they want to play. It’s not like you start with an idea of football and change it every five days. As for the story of formations, I have always said that it’s not important.”
Beyond the rivalry with Roma, this match holds immense importance for Lazio in terms of the league table. Tudor commented, “For Europe, this is a very important match. As for my players, I think they are unique and strong. I don’t like to say whether it’s the last chance or not. I always try to change this world that is black or white for you and gray for me.”
Addressing concerns about Lazio’s attack, Tudor reassured, “Do we have a problem in attack? No, it’s just not easy to score against Juventus. I work, and I never settle. It’s too early to judge the attack or defense. I like how the players are interpreting the moment.”
Touching on the referees, Tudor expressed his hope for a smooth match: “I hope there won’t be a problem afterward. Now we talk about two referees, and I hope both will do well.”
Regarding player updates, Tudor mentioned Kamada’s performance against Juventus and provided updates on injured players: “Against Juventus, he gave everything. He is a player I like because he is versatile. He has a good physical and technical level. Pellegrini trained with us at a high pace yesterday. Rovella also did well. Tomorrow we will definitely take them to the bench.”
