A devastating road accident near Potenza has claimed the lives of three young Foggia football fans. The victims, aged 13, 17, and 21, were returning from watching their team play in Potenza when the incident occurred.
Calciomercato report that Foggia’s vice president, Emanuele Canonico, and coach Ezio Capuano visited the San Carlo Hospital in Potenza, where two other young fans, aged 15 and 18, remain in critical condition. The club has been overwhelmed by the support from the football community, with numerous Foggia supporters returning to Potenza to show solidarity.
The city of Foggia has declared an official day of mourning to coincide with the funerals of the victims. Mayor Maria Aida expressed the community’s profound grief, stating that the entire city is united in silent and excruciating pain for the loss of three young lives.
Foggia are scheduled to host Catania on October 20th, followed by an away match against Sorrento in Potenza on October 27th. The latter game will take place at the Viviani stadium in Potenza due to ongoing renovations at Sorrento’s home ground.
The tragedy has sparked an outpouring of support from across Italian football. Foggia Calcio 1920 has expressed gratitude to Serie C League, clubs from various divisions, organized fan groups, and local authorities for their solidarity during this difficult time.
