Francesco Totti, Roma’s legendary former captain, has shared his thoughts on various topics concerning his beloved club and Italian football. Speaking at the Padel Pro Am Cup in Viareggio, Totti addressed Daniele De Rossi’s recent dismissal, the Serie A title race, and the emergence of young talents at Roma.
Regarding De Rossi’s departure, Totti said, “No one knows Daniele better than I do. He’s disappointed with how things went, the timing, and the manner. These things happen in football, and you can start again from negative experiences.”
When asked about the Scudetto race, Totti expressed no surprise at Napoli’s performance under new manager Antonio Conte. He stated, “Conte is a great coach and has a great team. Napoli, Juventus, and Inter are the favorites for the Scudetto.”
Totti also praised young Roma talent Niccolò Pisilli, who has recently been called up to the national team. “We’re talking about a great promising youngster, and I’m happy that Roma has found a great talent. He’s a great player and a well-mannered boy with his feet on the ground,” Totti remarked.
The Roma icon expressed disappointment over Edoardo Bove’s loan move, saying, “Bove could have done well at Roma. It’s a shame he was loaned out, even if it’s with an option to buy. I hope that one day he can return to Roma, especially since he’s a youth academy product.”
Reflecting on Italy’s 2006 World Cup victory, Totti shared, “Yesterday at dinner, we said, ‘Wow, 20 years have already passed since 2006.’ It makes us feel a bit strange, but reliving it all remains an incredible satisfaction. I believe that today’s Italy can do great things, given that it has a great coach and great promising young players.”
