Totti defends Yildiz: “He has quality, but comparing him to Del Piero doesn’t help”

Francesco Totti, the legendary Italian footballer, recently shared his thoughts at the Sportitalia Village during an event for Betsson, the brand he represents. The former Roma captain discussed various topics, including his present and future, the possibility of a sensational return to the pitch, and the absence of number 10s in the current Serie A landscape. He also commented on Juventus’ young talent, Kenan Yildiz.

When asked about the lack of traditional number 10s in Italian football today, Totti hinted at a potential resurgence, saying, “There isn’t a number 10 in Italy today, but one could return…”

Regarding Juventus’ rising star Kenan Yildiz, Totti was cautiously optimistic but warned against premature comparisons to Italian football legend Alessandro Del Piero. He stated, “Yildiz is a young talent, he needs to prove himself. He has great qualities to show he can be a great player. Comparing him to Alex (Del Piero) is reductive and doesn’t benefit the boy. What Alex has done will be difficult to replicate.”

Totti emphasized the weight of expectation that comes with wearing the iconic number 10 jersey, adding, “Wearing the number ten is not easy, the number ten is heavy.”
