Torino’s Schuurs faces long recovery: Return not expected until 2025

Start

Torino are grappling with a series of injuries that have significantly impacted the team’s performance. The most pressing concern is the absence of Duvan Zapata, the team’s key striker, which has prompted the club to explore the transfer market for potential replacements to support coach Paolo Vanoli. Additionally, injuries to players such as Adams and Ilic have further complicated matters for the Granata.

Calciomercato report how one of the most notable injury concerns is that of Perr Schuurs. The young Dutch defender, who was emerging as a leader in Torino’s defense last season, suffered a severe knee injury during a match against Inter on October 21, 2023. Since then, he has been sidelined, leaving fans and management eager for updates on his recovery.

Despite undergoing arthroscopic surgery in London to clean up his knee last October, Schuurs continues to experience pain when his leg is put under stress. According to reports, while a recent examination confirmed that the knee is stable, the underlying issue remains unresolved.

The timeline for Schuurs’ return to action is uncertain. He will only be able to train with the team once he no longer feels pain, which could take some time. Once he is pain-free, he will require at least a month of training to regain his match fitness before being considered for selection in an official game. Although there are hopes that he might return by late 2024, it is increasingly likely that fans will have to wait until 2025 for his comeback.

If this timeline holds true, Schuurs’ absence from competitive football could extend beyond 14 months—double the typical recovery period for an anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.
