Despite a strong performance, Torino suffered a 3-2 defeat against Cagliari, leaving manager Paolo Vanoli frustrated with his team’s inability to secure a positive result. Speaking to DAZN after the match, Vanoli highlighted areas for improvement while praising his squad’s overall display.
“We need to improve our concentration in the defensive phase,” Vanoli stated. “We play well, but we get penalized at the most crucial moments. This has been happening for a while now, and we must improve because two out of three goals came from set pieces.”
The manager expressed his disappointment with the referee’s decision on Cagliari’s free-kick goal, which he believed should have been a foul in Torino’s favor. Nevertheless, Vanoli remained positive about his team’s performance: “This Torino put in a great performance tonight as well. The boys must continue on this path.”
When asked about what was missing from his team’s game, Vanoli pointed to the finer details: “We’re missing the details, those details that improve a collective performance. The result shouldn’t overshadow what we’ve done. We’re a team that needs to be aware of what we’ve endured.”
Vanoli also noted the physical disadvantage his team faced, particularly in midfield: “We lack centimeters in midfield. On this field, against a physical team, it could have been decisive, and Palomino’s goal is also a result of this.”
The manager praised the performances of Adams and Sanabria, stating they were “excellent” but still have room for improvement. He also mentioned the need to improve Vlasic’s condition, who played extended minutes for the first time.
Looking ahead, Vanoli emphasized the need for his team to be smarter and more aggressive, while also improving their defensive repositioning: “We need to be quicker in repositioning ourselves defensively.”
