Torino manager Paolo Vanoli expressed his disappointment following his team’s 3-2 loss to Lazio in the sixth round of Serie A. Speaking to DAZN after the match, Vanoli focused on his team’s contrasting performances in the two halves.

“We need to build on the second half’s determination and desire,” Vanoli began. “However, I don’t understand the attitude in the first half, and I’m very angry about it. We were too slow, even in finding our plays. This has been happening to us several times; we also threw away the first 45 minutes against Empoli. When we play with a free mind, we’re a different team, as we demonstrated in the second half.”

Vanoli delved into the specific issues that plagued Torino in the first half: “We needed to make one more pass, have the patience to find the forwards, and the midfielders need to open up space. We lacked the personality to have a bit of patience to find the gaps, which we didn’t have today. Mistake after mistake, we lost some self-confidence. In the second half, we were a bit unbalanced.”

The manager emphasized the importance of mentality and belief in the team’s approach: “It all depends on the attitude, the desire you have to do something. With a free mind, at the beginning, we put in excellent performances. We need to believe more in what we’re doing; sometimes we’re too affected by the lack of calmness in finding the right play. We need serenity and quality.”

Regarding his second-half substitutions, Vanoli explained: “In the second half, I went with three forwards because we lacked depth, and with the double playmaker, we managed to keep possession a bit better. But this must not happen again; we must believe in our work. Let’s roll up our sleeves and get back to work, stronger than before.”
