Following the official appointment of Paolo Vanoli as head coach, Torino have begun strategizing for the transfer market. The club is in search of a left-sided wing-back and has shown interest in Welington from São Paulo, who is also on Southampton’s radar. However, before the deal can be finalized, Torino needs to make room by offloading a current player.
Gianluca di Marzio writes that Torino, having narrowly missed out on European qualification last season, aim to strengthen their squad to support Vanoli’s ambitions. The Granata are looking for a dynamic left wing-back to potentially replace either Valentino Lazaro or Mërgim Vojvoda.
Welington, a 23-year-old left-back from São Paulo, has attracted attention from both Torino and Southampton. Torino’s sporting director, Davide Vagnati, has moved quickly to explore the possibility of signing the player, whose contract expires on December 31. However, an existing player in that position must be sold first to facilitate the transfer.
Despite his young age, Welington has already made 143 appearances for São Paulo, contributing 2 goals and 11 assists.
