Tomori’s future at Milan uncertain as Conceicao takes charge

Start

The arrival of Sergio Conceicao as AC Milan’s new head coach has put Fikayo Tomori’s potential transfer to Juventus on hold. As is often the case when a new manager takes over, especially close to a transfer window, previously planned moves are being reassessed.

Conceicao, who had agreed to join Milan days ago, will need time to evaluate his squad and determine what changes, if any, are needed. The first few training sessions will be crucial in deciding Tomori’s future with the club.

Calciomercato report how under former manager Paulo Fonseca, Tomori was considered a backup option, and the club was open to selling him for around €25 million. Juventus had expressed interest in the English defender, with their coach Thiago Motta keen on bringing him in, although no agreement on the fee had been reached.

Now, with Conceicao at the helm, everything is in a state of flux. This doesn’t necessarily mean the transfer won’t happen, but the new coach might have different plans for Tomori. He could either agree with Fonseca’s assessment and allow the defender to leave, or he might promote Tomori and shake up the defensive hierarchy.

If Tomori does depart, Milan will need a replacement. The involvement of Jorge Mendes and his network in Milan’s affairs has led to increased speculation about Antonio Silva. The question now is whether Silva will join Conceicao senior at Milan or Conceicao junior at another club. For now, Antonio Silva’s preference seems to be joining the younger Conceicao.
