In a candid interview with The Athletic, Juventus forward Timothy Weah shared his thoughts on the team’s new playing style, his relationship with teammates, and the rivalry with Inter Milan.
Discussing Juventus under Thiago Motta, Weah said, “It’s more positive, more attacking, more possession-based. I feel we can definitely score more, and that goes for me too, I can definitely score more, but I think we’re doing very well this season. If you look at most of the games we play, we don’t concede, we dominate, and we score as well. This season is really fun. We’re still learning the tactics and getting to know each other, but there are a lot of young guys who want to do their job, so I think this year will be fun.”
When asked about Marcus Thuram’s performance at Inter Milan, Weah expressed mixed feelings: “He’s had an incredible start to the season. Marcus is doing well and I’m proud of him. Obviously, he plays for Inter. But we don’t like Inter! But we like Marcus.”
Weah also recounted a memorable moment from a match against Como, where he scored a goal just before getting injured. He recalled his conversation with the coach: “I was talking to the coach and he told me: ‘Two minutes! Two minutes left, or a minute more or less.’ And he asked me: ‘Can you hold on?’ And I replied: ‘Yes, yes, hold on.'”
Reflecting on his transfer to Juventus, Weah revealed, “I played the whole season as a right-back, winger, and then at the end of the season came the call from Juve… for the same role, which was a surprise to me because it was the first year I played in that position. It was a bit crazy.”
The American player also highlighted his close friendship with teammate Weston McKennie: “Honestly, Wes is one of the main reasons I came here. I knew he was here and I knew I’d have one of my best friends on the team here. And off the field, I’m always at his house. We always relax, so we already have that kind of relationship, and then bringing it onto the field has been fantastic, obviously in a different position because when I play with him for the National Team I’m higher up, so we have a different bond, but playing lower and closer to him. I mean, if you look at many of my games, most of my best games are when Wes and I play side by side.”
