With a series of catastrophic events occurring behind the scenes within the capital, Roma sporting director Tiago Pinto openly spoke on the dilemma involving Nicolo Zaniolo’s future.
With the 23 year-old’s contract set to expire in the upcoming summer, the Giallorossi were hesitant on entering renewal talks as a result of his inconsistent run of form following being sidelined for a long period due to two consecutive ACL tears.
However, the Italian international showed no desire in waiting as he handed a transfer request to part ways with Mourinho’s squad in January, causing him to have not been featured in the squad facing Spezia this evening.
While speaking to the media, as relayed by Milan-based journal La Gazzetta dello Sport, Pinto provided his insight on the situation regarding the former Inter player:
“Zaniolo? All of us in football know that there are two different seasons: the one with the market closed, when maybe we have more serenity, and the one with the market open and individual interests are sometimes put before collective ones. Unfortunately, it’s not the first time it’s happened, it’s not the first time it’s happened, so today everyone who has the desire and motivation to fight for the team is here. I may have been wrong many times but from my first day to the last the collective interests of the team and of Roma will always come first.”
