Inter striker Marcus Thuram spoke about his ambitions with the club, saying “Inter are on another level; the goal is to win the championship.” The Frenchman was speaking with Spanish newspaper AS, and touched on his role with the Nerazzurri, as well as the French national team ahead of EURO 2024:
“I’ve given my all to adapt quickly. Inter is on another level; the goal is to win the championship, and if we don’t achieve it, it’s a failure. Every player trains with this clear objective in mind. Compared to Borussia Monchengladbach, a club for which I will always be grateful and have great respect, there’s a significant difference in mentality. Every match is important, every minute is crucial in our quest to win the title. This obviously brings a lot of pressure, which is something new for me.”
He continued by comparing his roles: “With France, there’s a single central forward, whereas with Inter, we play with two strikers. I adapt well to both situations, and for me, there isn’t a significant difference. However, it’s clear that at Inter, playing alongside Lautaro Martinez, we need to occupy different spaces.”
Thuram expressed his readiness to take on a leading role for the French national team: “It’s clear that I feel ready to be the number 9 for the national team now that Giroud has announced his retirement after the European Championship. Last summer, I signed with Inter to step into a new dimension and open a new chapter in my life. I’ve taken on new responsibilities this season and am ready to do the same for the national team.”
