Thiago Motta: “We Won by playing our game. Europe? Still a long way to go”

Start

Thiago Motta says Bologna still have a long way to go before they can think about European football, but was pleased with their 2-0 win over Fiorentina. A goal in the first half from Riccardo Orsolini and Jens Odgaard’s second in the final minutes secured three points for the Rossoblu, who won the direct clash in the European places and leveled points with Atalanta, fourth in the standings. At the end of the match, Bologna coach Thiago Motta commented on the game to DAZN:

“Orsolini is doing well, as is the whole group. I saw a stat in his game that I didn’t like, but I will discuss it with him later. We’ve been talking about it for several weeks, and I’m convinced he can improve. But he put in a great performance, as did his teammates. A great game in attack, but also in defense. They were attentive and focused. And on top of that, there’s the goal. We won it as Bologna, playing our game and trying to always be ourselves. This gives great satisfaction. Playing well like this makes you win, and today we got this reward. This reinforces the ideas, the awareness of the strength of this group.”

The Bologna coach then continued: “Aebischer and Ferguson are two very intelligent guys, they know where to go to put opponents in difficulty. When they pair up with the central defenders, they know they can take them out to free up space. Today in building from the back, we were fantastic, starting with Ravaglia. Some actions could have ended better, but overall, we played a great game. Ravaglia? I’ve always said that we’re lucky to have two extraordinary goalkeepers. They work very well and deserve to play. But they are fantastic guys, they know that only one of them can play. Today, in the warm-up, Skorupski helped Ravaglia a lot. Neither of the two has left the team; they are always present.”

Finally, Motta concluded: “Zirkzee? Sometimes he’s ruthless in front of the goal, as he showed, for example, against Cagliari. Let’s not forget he’s very young. He plays the team very well, he helps a lot without the ball. Many recoveries start from his pressing. In the group, he always helps; he’s a leader because he works so hard. Europe? Still a long way to go. Today we had a great victory; now we have three days to prepare for Lazio, who are very strong. We have to be ready for the match to perform at our best.”
