As Juventus gears up for a pivotal Serie A match against Bologna, head coach Thiago Motta held a press conference to share his thoughts on the upcoming game, team dynamics, and player fitness.
Motta opened the conference by expressing his appreciation for the supporters: “First, I want to thank our fans who will be at the stadium supporting the team and players. What’s important is how we perform on the pitch. I’m confident we’ll put in a fantastic performance.”
Discussing Bologna, Motta acknowledged their current form and playing style. “Bologna is doing well; they are a great team. They play vertically and press a lot. We need to focus on what we have to do and avoid many other things against a team that is in good shape right now and will bring a lot of intensity to the match.”
When asked about Gianluigi Buffon’s recent comments regarding Juventus, Motta emphasized the collective leadership within the squad. “The words of Buffon? Right now, our full concentration is on Bologna, the next match. I take all of Gigi’s comments with great pleasure and respect. Not just for him as a player but as a person; we have shared many beautiful moments together. I will always thank him for what he has done.”
He continued, “We are all leaders here; some take responsibility, while others contribute alongside our leaders. Tomorrow, we can demonstrate that in a match where we can put into practice what we know how to do.”
Motta stressed the importance of focusing on their own game rather than external pressures or opinions about the title race. “We are focused on our match, preparing as best we can, and aiming to deliver the best possible performance. Everything else is outside our control; we respect all public or professional opinions.”
Addressing the pressure that comes with coaching a club like Juventus, he stated, “Responsibility always exists and will always exist. Every team has its goals, and we approach every day of work with great responsibility. I embrace this responsibility wholeheartedly.”
On player fitness, Motta confirmed that Dusan Vlahovic would return to the squad after training with the team throughout the week. However, he noted that several players would miss out: “Tomorrow there won’t be Nico, Weston McKennie, Arek Milik, Bremer, and Cabal.”
He expressed happiness about Vlahovic’s return: “We are always glad to have him back; he can do what he loves most—playing football.”
Motta highlighted the importance of every player contributing to the team’s success: “Everyone gives something; those who play consistently are important during matches. Throughout the week, many other players who don’t play help improve the team. The level of demand among them rises.”
He also addressed recent performances: “We come from games where we haven’t won; some moments were very good while others need improvement. The demand is high. We cannot focus solely on one phase of play to achieve the results we want.”
When asked about potential reception from Bologna fans, Motta reflected fondly on his time there: “I spent two wonderful years in Bologna, both personally and sportingly. There’s nothing more to add regarding any protests or chants.”
Regarding his team’s unbeaten run versus their need for victories, he said: “Would I trade unbeaten status for a string of wins? We always strive to deliver our best performances possible. We have another great opportunity ahead of us.”
Motta provided updates on other injured players: “Nico, Douglas Costa, and McKennie? We hope to see them back soon; we’ll evaluate them for future matches.”
On injuries affecting his squad, he stated: “I don’t believe in luck or misfortune regarding injuries. I work closely with my players and club to improve for Juventus’ benefit. The judgment is up to you.”
Motta confirmed that young talents would be included in his plans: “With us will be Pugno, Nico, Pagnucco, and Owusu. They will be part of our setup.”
