Thiago Motta: “Today we have Locatelli and Fagioli, who know what we need”

Juventus manager Thiago Motta has addressed his decision to leave new signing Douglas Luiz on the bench for the second consecutive match as the team prepares to face Hellas Verona.

Despite being a high-profile acquisition from Aston Villa during the current transfer window, Luiz has yet to start for Juventus. In the season opener against Como, which Juventus won 3-0, the Brazilian midfielder only entered the game in the 79th minute.

Ahead of the Verona match, Motta explained his tactical approach and the reasoning behind Luiz’s omission from the starting lineup. The coach emphasized the unique challenges posed by Verona’s playing style, noting their alternating pressure and strong defensive block.

Motta stated, “Douglas Luiz, like all others, is an important player. For me, there are players who play and those who will play in the upcoming matches.” He stressed the importance of all squad members in raising the team’s overall level.

The Juventus boss revealed his decision to start with Manuel Locatelli and Nicolò Fagioli in midfield, citing their familiarity with each other and understanding of the team’s needs. However, Motta expressed confidence that Luiz would make a significant impact if introduced in the second half.
