Thiago Motta: ‘The attacking phase is not just Vlahovic’s job. That’s why McKennie plays’

Juventus head coach Thiago Motta shared his thoughts with Sky Sport before his team’s Champions League match against PSV Eindhoven. The Italian manager emphasized the importance of a collective approach and addressed key aspects of the team’s strategy.

Motta began by highlighting the significance of the occasion, stating, “It’s a great football atmosphere to experience to the fullest. From now on, we must be serious and focused for every minute that passes. They like to play just as we do.”

When asked about the increased level of competition in Europe, Motta responded, “Always, every match has its own story. In Europe, you face teams like PSV who dominate the game in their league, and we will confront them on the field to deliver a great performance.”

Addressing the selection of Weston McKennie in the starting lineup, Motta explained, “He’s doing well and he’s playing. I expect the same from him as from the others. We must work together; we are 11 players without the ball working with our ideas when we have possession. We need to challenge PSV by attacking their last line, which is what we’ve been missing.”

Motta also addressed concerns about service to striker Dusan Vlahovic, emphasizing a team-oriented approach to attacking play. “The offensive phase is everyone’s task, not just Dusan’s,” he said. “We need to put everyone in the best possible situation.”
