Thiago Motta: ‘My future? I’ll discuss it with the president very soon’

Thiago Motta refused to be drawn on his future following Bologna’s 3-3 draw with Juventus: “We’ll talk about the future internally with the president.” The Rossoblu coach is widely expected to make the move to the Bianconeri this summer, despite Bologna’s attempts to keep him. Looking back at the match, Motta explained the importance of his teams progression this season, having qualified for the Champions League for the first time in the clubs history:

“We need to enjoy this celebration. We’ll talk about the future internally with the president. We’ve had a fantastic season together. Skorupski is a great guy, contributing immensely both on and off the pitch. I agree with him that we’ve created a wonderful group that has played well and achieved great results.”

When asked about future plans, Motta emphasized the importance of savoring the current success before planning ahead. “We need to enjoy the moment. Discussions about the future will be held with the president, and we’ll communicate our decisions together. The most important thing for me is the relationship we build with the players. I look each of them in the eye and try to give them what they deserve. Although it’s impossible to play everyone, I care deeply for each of them. If someone had told me at the start of the season that we’d be level with Juventus with one game remaining, I would have thought they were crazy. But from day one, the boys showed up with a desire to help, improve, and respect each other, fostering healthy competition.”

Motta also praised his team’s performance and the dedication they’ve shown. “They’ve given their all to play this way. No one expected these results, and today our team stands as a strong reality. The boys have hunger and desire to work well. We need to take advantage of this and enjoy every minute.”

Specifically mentioning Alexis Saelemaekers, Motta added, “I’m pleased with him. He performed well, although he could have done even better. He came here wanting to prove his worth, and he’s done just that, both individually and as part of the group.”
