Thiago Motta: ‘At 2-1 up, we were still trying to score another’

Following Juventus’ 2-2 draw with Fiorentina, head coach Thiago Motta addressed the media, sharing his thoughts on the match and the performances of his players.

Motta expressed satisfaction with his team’s attacking mindset, stating, “I am happy because we tried to attack and score a third goal instead of just closing up and defending. Today we needed to win and finish the game, but we allowed Fiorentina the chance to come back.”

Reflecting on defensive errors, he remarked, “I focus more on the fact that we didn’t close the game. We should have scored a third goal and managed the situation better. While we did concede some chances, they didn’t shoot much. In the end, the result shows that we weren’t able to win.”

The coach acknowledged that in previous matches where Juventus took the lead, they managed their defensive phase better. He emphasized the importance of seeking a third goal against a team like Fiorentina: “When you sit back against a team like Fiorentina, it becomes difficult. We have players like Thuram, Locatelli, Savona, Conceição, and Koopmeiners who are eager to push forward and seek goals. They can lead us, and many others can follow their example.”
