Thiago Motta: “After taking the lead we dropped too deep”

Start

Juventus manager Thiago Motta expressed mixed feelings after his team’s 1-1 draw against local rivals Torino in the Derby della Mole. The Bianconeri took an early lead through Yildiz but were pegged back by Vlasic’s equalizer just before halftime.

“We started very well,” Motta said in his post-match interview. “After taking the lead, we dropped too deep as a team: by putting the ball into the box, they created dangerous situations. In the second half, we came out well.”

The Italian tactician acknowledged areas for improvement, particularly in terms of aggression and finishing: “We can do better in terms of aggressiveness. We didn’t finish our actions properly to win the game. In the locker room, we talked about this situation: it’s okay to get organized, but we need to move forward and take control of the field.”

This result marks Juventus’ 12th draw of the season, a statistic that Motta is acutely aware of: “Certainly a few too many draws: now we will also recover the players who have made a great physical effort and think about the next game against Atalanta.”

On a positive note, Motta praised the performance of Douglas Luiz and expressed gratitude for Cambiaso’s commitment: “Douglas Luiz? I’m very happy with his performance because we need as many players as possible in good form in the squad. At the moment, I have to thank Cambiaso because he’s on anti-inflammatories to help us out.”
