Luciano Spalletti, the head coach of the Italian national football team, spoke to Rai after Italy’s Nations League match against Belgium, where they secured a 1-0 victory thanks to Sandro Tonali’s first international goal. Reflecting on the match, Spalletti noted, “They were good; the pitch became heavy in the second half, and we lost a bit of clarity. We made a few too many mistakes with the ball. In conditions like these, it’s crucial to keep possession because adapting to the opponents’ pace becomes very difficult. When they came into our half, it became challenging, but they were like lions.”
Commenting on Nicolò Rovella’s debut, Spalletti praised the young player: “Rovella was excellent. It was a beautiful debut, and the attitude of all the players showed they are a tough team.”
Looking back at the team’s journey over the past five months, he remarked, “It seemed like a project that was finished before it even started. Being Italy, we always have the opportunity to find 30 players to create a strong national team; this has been said 500 times. We needed to find the right solutions and put them in a position to play as a team, but they found that on their own because they are strong boys.”
