Szczesny undergoes nasal surgery, faces spell on sidelines

Start

Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has undergone nasal surgery after picking up an injury in their 0-0 draw with Torino. The Polish international found himself under the surgeon’s knife after sustaining a nasal fracture during the recent Turin derby. Following the match, Szczesny underwent a procedure to address the injury, which occurred during a collision with Torino defender Adam Masina. The surgery was performed by Professor Tubino at the Chivasso hospital, successfully addressing the fracture.

In an official statement released by Juventus, it was confirmed that:

“Following the collision during the Torino-Juventus match, Wojciech Szczęsny underwent surgical intervention last night (April 13) at the end of the match to reduce the fracture of the nasal bones. The surgery, performed by Dr. Libero Tubino in the presence of the club’s medical staff Marco Freschi at the Chivasso hospital, was perfectly successful. The player will be discharged in the next few hours, and his condition will be monitored daily.”

Reports from ilbianconero.com suggest that the former Arsenal shot-stopper expressed his readiness to return to action immediately with the aid of a protective mask. However, caution is advised in such cases. As a result, it appears likely that Szczesny will miss the upcoming match against Cagliari on Friday, with the aim of potentially returning to contention for the Lazio clash, even if only among the substitutes.

In Szczesny’s absence, Mattia Perin is expected to step in, as he did during the recent Coppa Italia fixture. Should Szczesny fail to recover in time for the Lazio encounter, his availability for the subsequent match against Milan will be assessed.
