Italy coach Luciano Spalletti says the Azzurri are heading to Euro 2024 with the aim of repeating their 2021 win. The new Azzurri boss was speaking at the Atreju in Rome and shared some of his early experiences in charge of the team, including his first impressions of his squad and the sensations of being in charge of a national team:
“You feel belonging, you feel you are part of a great people. It was something new for me, but I’m getting so passionate about it. Singing the national anthem, for example, is really unique. I’m still not used to it.
‘The players? They are strong and they are champions, but they need someone to tell them things. Some players like fantasy football more than football. I have to create daily habits to make them feel even more in touch with the Azzurri shirt’.
“Objectives? We must try to repeat ourselves. We are the defending champions after all’. Then, the Italy coach commented on the round of the competition with Croatia, Spain and Albania.
“As I said before, we are the defending team and no one will be happy to face us. We must be remembered by everyone as a team that played fierce football, going to face the opponents. For now we should not care if anyone believes in us. I believe in them and they believe in themselves.”
