Italian National Team coach Luciano Spalletti shared his thoughts on several players during a recent appearance on DAZN’s “Serie A Show.” The former Napoli manager offered insights on the development of key players and the challenges of modern football management.
Spalletti began by discussing the recent performances of Mateo Retegui and Giovanni Di Lorenzo: “They’re doing well in recent matches. I’m pleased to have new ideas that lead to working for the future. Retegui? When I watch him, I always notice improvements. He’s very self-critical, which for me is an important message. Di Lorenzo has gone through a difficult period where he unfairly endured many unpleasant things.”
The coach then turned his attention to Moise Kean, expressing confidence in the young striker’s potential: “I’ve been saying for a long time that he will become a great player. He has never played consistently. He has strength, attacks space, and can improve a lot technically. Plus, he has a lot of international experience.”
When asked about Roma captain Lorenzo Pellegrini being indispensable to the Giallorossi, Spalletti offered a measured response: “Well, indispensable is a big word… He has great qualities, a sublime foot that’s also useful on set pieces. But right now he’s below his level.”
Spalletti also touched on the broader challenges of managing a team like Roma in today’s football landscape: “Football is difficult, you have to manage many things that are off the field, and in a world that moves so fast, it becomes complicated. You have to manage players, relationships, media, families, many things.”
