Spalletti pleased with victory over Empoli

Start

With Napoli extending their unbeaten run within the Serie A to 14 consecutive games following their 2-0 victory over Empoli, Spalletti provided his opinions of the fixture to the media.

Throughout the majority of the game, it seemed as if I Partenopei were finally going to drop points sooner than many expected as Spalletti’s squad had quite a difficult time breaking the deadlock.

However, a major plot-twist occurred as Napoli earned a penalty shot after Victor Osimhen was fouled within the box. Mexican international stepped up to the spot and converted the penalty in order to seal the opener.

Later on, Zanetti’s hopes of obtaining an equalizer were shattered as center-back Sebastiano Luperto was sent off after receiving a second yellow.

Within the dying minutes of the fixture, it was Lozano who delivered a well-weighted cross, allowing Polish midfielder Piotr Zielinski to double Napoli’s advantage from point-blank range.

As a result, Napoli have now distanced themselves from second-placed Milan even further, as they are now separated by quite an immense gap of eight points.

While speaking to the media, as relayed by Italian news outlet Tuttomercatoweb, the Tuscan tactician expressed his views on his side’s vital win in Naples:

We made lots of crosses and we got there to pocket lots of times, but then it depends on whether they get there with the midfielder. If they get there with the midfielder you haven’t moved anything, tactically you haven’t taken advantage. If you get there by playing the ball, where the their midfielder cannot arrive, it’s different. They have always been good at closing us with the midfielder of the turbot. There individual value becomes fundamental and it becomes difficult to have supremacy against a team that has played a huge game of sacrifice.”
