Spalletti: ‘Kean played well, Bonaventura a champion, I expect more from Berardi’

Start

Luciano Spalletti was pleased with his players performance in Italy’s 4-0 win over Malta but explained where he wants more from the team. Giacomo Bonaventura opened the scoring, before Domenico Berardi scored a superb brace, with Davide Frattesi capping off the performance. Speaking of the match with Sky Sport Italia, Spalletti explained the importance of putting in a strong performance ahead of the Azzurri’s match against England next week:

“The specific value of this match is the three points without ever questioning the result. The group is coming out well because there is the will”.

“Moise Kean? He played a great game as winger when he was aiming at his man. He made his physicality felt. He can give us a big hand. I congratulated him because he ran so much.”

‘The participation of the public was a concrete expression of how much desire for football and above all for Italy there is in this region and throughout the country. Even tonight many people pushed us on from home on TV. We always tried to play the game by going at it with the right attitude and maintaining an incredible lucidity. Except for a few bad balls in possession we didn’t concede anything. So we are satisfied, even if we have to be better and more qualitative in the little space they gave us in front of the penalty area”.

“Bonaventura and Berardi? First of all Jack unblocked the situation with a shot like the champion he is. Besides the great goal he showed quality in coming away from difficult situations. Berardi is known to have a knockout blow: he’s tough when he chooses to kick towards goal and knows how to find solutions. I expect something more in the one-on-one and in the participation in the game. You break up these games if you find superiority from the outside by beating the man one-on-one.”

“England? It will be a game where we will know our real capabilities: an important test.”
