Italy’s national team coach Luciano Spalletti shared his thoughts on Roma’s key players Paulo Dybala and Lorenzo Pellegrini during an appearance on Rai 2’s “Domenica Sportiva” program. Spalletti addressed the ongoing speculation surrounding Dybala’s potential move to Galatasaray and Pellegrini’s struggle to secure a starting position under Claudio Ranieri.
Regarding Dybala, Spalletti emphasized the Argentine’s importance to the team: “Everyone knows Dybala by now: he is a player who can make an entire team click. He has this technique and relationality with the entire team. He has quality every time the ball comes to his foot, he is confident with the goal in front of him. He only lacks a bit of structure, a bit of physicality, but he’s a top player.”
When asked if Roma should retain Dybala, Spalletti was cautious but supportive: “It’s difficult for me to say, I know that Dybala is a strong player and, for a team that has to build a strong mentality, it’s good to keep players like him.”
Turning his attention to Pellegrini, who has been struggling to find form, Spalletti acknowledged the challenges faced by the Italian midfielder: “The situation that Roma is experiencing probably doesn’t help him. He’s a player with quality, who should develop well in a different league context. Now Roma must think about bringing home points and becomes more workmanlike in many situations before exhibiting the quality of some players.”
Spalletti concluded by noting that Pellegrini remains under scrutiny for the national team: “Pellegrini is a player under observation at this moment, as he has been previously.”
