Spalletti announces Italy squad: Di Gregorio and Gabbia earn first call-ups

Start

Italy are set to welcome new faces to the national team as Luciano Spalletti announces his 23-man squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches against Belgium (October 10, in Rome) and Israel (October 14, in Udine). Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio and AC Milan defender Matteo Gabbia receive their first call-ups to the Azzurri, but they are not the only newcomers.

Roma’s Niccolò Pisilli will also don the Italy shirt for the first time, alongside Daniel Maldini of Monza. Maldini’s inclusion is particularly noteworthy, coming more than 22 years after his father Paolo’s last appearance for the national team and 61 years after his grandfather Cesare’s.
