Chris Smalling’s agent has denied reports that the Egmlish centre-back has asked to leave Roma in the January transfer window. A report from Tuttomercatoweb claimed that Smalling has put in a transfer request to the Giallorossi after talks over his contract extension broke down. The 33-year-old has five months on his contract in the capital and has already been linked with a move to Serie A rivals Inter and Juventus.
Roma were quick to deny the report and the players agent, James Featherstone, spoke with Sky Sport journalist Fabrizio Romano to deny any suggestion that a move was happening.
“The future of Chris is not something that is being played out in the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma,” Featherstone said. “Similar to there, the audience do not engage with the performers.”
“We continue to be in talks with Roma,” he added. “Chris is focused on delivering more success for Roma this season.”
