Napoli’s search for a new head coach is intensifying as the season draws to a close, with Francesco Calzona set to depart. Sky Sport Italia report that on Thursday new discussions took place with Gian Piero Gasperini, the current manager of Atalanta. For now, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis seems inclined to wait for the decision of the Atalanta coach, however, Antonio Conte remains a strong candidate for the position.
Alongside Gasperini and former Tottenham manager Antonio Conte, other potential candidates include Stefano Pioli and Vincenzo Italiano, the current managers of Milan and Fiorentina, respectively.
Gasperini appears to be the frontrunner in the eyes of De Laurentiis and Giovanni Manna, who is expected to be Napoli’s new sporting director. The Atalanta coach is expected to have discussions with the club after the Europa League final to determine his future.
Conte is another top contender for De Laurentiis, but the former Spurs coach comes with higher financial demands and specific requirements for player acquisitions.
Pioli and Italiano also remain in consideration and are highly regarded by De Laurentiis as both have proven track records and could bring valuable experience and strategic insight to Napoli.
