Skriniar seeks playing time: Juventus-PSG relations could facilitate loan move

Start

Milan Skriniar’s situation at Paris Saint-Germain has taken an unexpected turn, with the Slovak defender finding himself on the fringes of the team. The 29-year-old, who joined PSG on a free transfer last year, has played just 111 minutes in Ligue 1 this season, spread across two matches. He has yet to feature in the Champions League, spending his time on the bench.

La Gazzetta dello Sport detail how Skriniar’s desire for more playing time is evident. He recently expressed his frustration while on international duty with Slovakia, stating, “I’m very happy in Paris, but I’m not satisfied with my current situation at PSG. I would like more opportunities and minutes. I respect Luis Enrique’s decisions; the only thing I can do is train well.”

This situation has caught the attention of Juventus, who are in need of defensive reinforcement following Gleison Bremer’s season-ending knee injury. The Italian giants see Skriniar as a potential solution to their defensive woes, and the player’s nostalgia for Serie A could make Turin an attractive destination.

However, financial constraints pose a challenge for Juventus. After significant summer investments, the club can only consider a loan deal for January. Skriniar’s hefty salary of €9 million net per year is beyond Juventus’ current wage structure, meaning any deal would likely require PSG to cover a portion of his wages.

The good relationship between Juventus’ sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli and PSG’s Luis Campos could facilitate negotiations. Moreover, the improved relations between Juventus and PSG at the highest level, as evidenced by Nasser Al-Khelaifi’s welcoming stance towards Juventus’ return to the European Club Association, could prove crucial in finding a creative loan solution.

As the January transfer window approaches, all parties involved seem to have something to gain from a potential deal. Skriniar could secure the playing time he craves, Juventus would find a quality replacement for Bremer, and PSG could temporarily offload a player currently surplus to requirements. The coming weeks will be crucial in determining whether this mutually beneficial arrangement can come to fruition.
