Inter Milan, coach Simone Inzaghi addressed the media following his team’s impressive 3-0 victory over Cagliari, marking their fifth consecutive win in Serie A and temporarily placing them at the top of the league table. In an interview with DAZN, Inzaghi shared insights on the match, the team’s objectives, and individual player performances.
Inzaghi began by discussing the challenges of the match against Cagliari, acknowledging their recent struggles. “At the end of the first half, we complimented the team. It wasn’t simple to come here and get a result; they were coming off three consecutive losses that weren’t deserved. We knew we were facing a wounded but alive team,” he noted. He pointed out that while some finishing touches were missed in the first half, they still created several opportunities.
Reflecting on the year ahead, Inzaghi expressed optimism about 2024. “This exciting 2024 is closing. Winning our second star will unite us forever with our fans and management. Now we must go to Arabia for the Super Cup, knowing we have won it for three years and that we will face teams eager to emulate Inter,” he stated.
Inzaghi credited his players for their willingness to work hard on set pieces. “There is a lot of availability from the players, and I have a staff that helps me tremendously. We practice these situations a lot,” he explained. He highlighted key players like Hakan Çalhanoğlu, Federico Dimarco, and Samuele Asllani for their proficiency in executing set pieces but emphasized that organization plays a crucial role in football.
The discussion then shifted to Lautaro Martínez’s performance. Inzaghi acknowledged that while Martínez had not played consistently in all competitions, he is an integral part of the team. “He would obviously like to play all the time. Did I see him more relaxed after scoring? Of course, it weighed on him not scoring; it’s obvious even if he didn’t talk about it much. We told him he has a team working for him to help him score,” Inzaghi said. He reassured fans that “Lautaro Martínez will never be a problem but a solution for Inter.”
Finally, when asked about Inter’s ambitions in the Champions League, Inzaghi confidently declared, “Winning the Champions League? We know we are Inter; we have objectives and it’s right to declare them.” He acknowledged that January and February would be particularly demanding with a packed schedule and emphasized the need for everyone’s commitment: “We need everyone’s availability—some for 90 minutes, some for 30, some for 12 minutes.”
